Apply before 30 April for this golden funded opportunity to help shape the future of screen and virtual production
Abertay University launched the CoSTAR Realtime Lab, a new £9m virtual production studio at Water’s Edge, Dundee on 18 February this year. This was the start of operations for a major infrastructure project that will provide a significant boost to the screen industries of Scotland and the UK.
Whatever your ambitions in the amazing world of production, this is a key tool going forward and a great way to diversify your skills and give you more opportunities to get hired or add to your business offer.
Virtual Production is a major advance on greenscreen. Locations and experiences can be captured using photogrammetry (3D photography) or created digitally. These are projected onto very large screens or banks of screens so that cast and crew can see and interact in real time. The technology makes the most of game engines and an early advocate was renowned producer and director, Steven Spielberg.
The aim is to drive research, innovation and economic growth across screen, games, immersive and performance industries.
The £76m CoSTAR programme is funded by the UKRI Infrastructure Fund and delivered by the Arts and Humanities Research Council.
There are four key hubs. The programme and lead hub is led by Royal Holloway University of London. The Realtime Lab is in Dundee, Scotland and is led by Abertay University in partnership with the University of Edinburgh, CodeBase, Interface and Chroma Developments.
So this is a call for screen and content grads and early-career folks (up to two years in the industry) to take part in a Film Academy and experience what this new technology has to offer.
